INVITATION – PRESS CONFERENCE

European Elections: the European Federalist Party runs in 7 countries

Meet the candidates from Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal & Hungary*

Monday May 5th at 10:15,

Café de la Presse Sablon, Rue de la Régence, 26 – 1000 – Bruxelles

In stark contrast with the increasingly vocal anti-Europeans and nationalist parties that are rising all over Europe, the European Federalist Party is convinced that only through a fully democratic and more effective Europe we will be able tackle today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.

The vision of a federal Europe is gaining momentum as an alternative to both the ineffective “business as usual” policies carried out by mainstream political parties, and to the extremist positions taken by the nationalists who are riding the fears and dissatisfaction resulted from the recent years of crisis and austerity.

Europeans are asking for a Europe that protects the citizens, a Europe that is able to provide a vision and some hope for future generations. A Europe that is closer to them!

By uniting pro-Europeans from across Europe, the European Federalist Party is the only, truly, pan-European party which managed to present candidates defending the same federalist political programme in 6 European countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Italy and Portugal- signatures are also being collected to run in Hungary*). By doing so we are contributing to the development of a truly pan-European political public sphere, which is indispensable for a functioning democracy at European level. Our candidates will attend the press conference to answer to your questions.

About the European Federalist Party

The European Federalist Party (EFP) is the only grassroots pan-European political party campaigning for a more democratic and federal Europe. The EFP was founded in 2011 by citizens from all over Europe and has since developed into a cross-border movement with sections in 16 EU countries.

Our candidates will all be defending the same pan-European programme drafted and voted by our members at the 2013 Federal Convention. The programme (available here) includes a directly elected president of the European Commission, an European welfare system complementary to national ones to protect mobile workers and students, an harmonisation of EU corporate tax to reduce the burden on Small and Medium enterprises and a fully integrated defence and foreign policy.

The EFP has also contributed to the introduction of several pieces of European legislations including the European Citizens’ Initiative and the EU roaming regulation.
