Europeans in the UK are not immigrants migrant but citizens. (FR version below)

The European Federalist Party condemns the content of the speech pronounced by Cameron. “European citizens living, studying or working in the UK are not immigrants but EU citizens!” argued Pietro De Matteis, President of the European Federalist Party.

“To respond to the concerns (largely unfounded according to the data) that some Member States are victim of “welfare tourism” we should not block mobility in Europe which is crucial for a well-functioning single market and currency. On the contrary we need to “Europeanise” some elements of our welfare systems” added Pietro De Matteis. This includes some harmonisation of Europe’s social standards which will contribute to fight against social dumping, to avoid the feeling of “welfare tourism” and to ensure that mobile citizens such as workers, students, interns and job-seekers benefit from welfare protection.

The EFP condemn the populist approach to the mobility/migration issues which are often used by mainstream parties to try fishing votes from those at the extremes such as UKIP in the UK or Front National in France. This irresponsible approach may foster discriminatory acts against non-national EU residents. Such behaviours, which have already been registered in recent years, should not be tolerated and certainly not encouraged by any political leader.

Les européens au Royaume-Uni ne sont pas immigrants, mais citoyens européens !

Le Parti fédéraliste européen condamne le contenu du discours prononcé par le Premier Ministre britannique Cameron. “Les citoyens européens qui vivent, étudient ou travaillent au Royaume-Uni ne sont pas des immigrés mais des citoyens de l’UE!” souligne Pietro De Matteis, président du Parti fédéraliste européen.

« La réponse aux préoccupations (en grand partie infondées au niveau des faits), selon lesquelles certains Etats Membres seraient victimes d’un « tourisme de bien être », n’est pas le blocage de la mobilité des personnes en Europe (cette mobilité est importante pour assurer un bon fonctionnement du marché intérieur), mais au contraire de donner un caractère plus « européen » à nos systèmes de protection sociale «  a ajouté Pietro de Matteis.

Cela comprend une bonne harmonisation des normes sociales dans l’UE, qui contribueront à lutter contre le dumping social

Le Parti Fédéraliste Européen condamne fermement l’approche populiste, et l’utilisation abusive des thèmes de migration ou mobilité, que certains partis extrémistes, tels que l’UKIP au Royaume Uni ou le Front National, n’hésitent pas utiliser de manière démagogique comme instrument de « pêche aux voies »

Cette approche irresponsable risque de favoriser des actes discriminatoires contre les résidents de l’UE. Ces comportements, récurrents au cours des dernières années, ne peuvent être tolérés
